Logistics to get landmine clearing projects up and running consume large amounts of funding and time. Generally speaking, landmine clearing is the forerunner to other development projects involving education, health, agriculture and tourism. Demco’s large range of mechanical landmine clearing equipment enables the rehabilitation of roads to work sites, bush clearing, plowing and planting, dam building and site leveling for buildings to be a sensible way of incorporating all auxiliary aid programmes into a holistic/combined effort by all role players in aid projects. Basically by rehabilitating gravel/dirt roads to a site as part of a project, it will reduce costs, damage to vehicles and time, tremendously. Improved roads will be the difference between life and death for an injured or ill person. The ability of the local population to get their goods and services to markets can be greatly enhanced by having a decent road in place. A good road can dramatically lead to the improved living conditions of a community.
Demco has the equipment as part of their landmine clearing kit to enable role players in the various projects to co-ordinate their efforts and thus reduce time and costs in delivering successful aid projects.
Fragmented approaches with different aid organizations struggling with the same hostile conditions do not adequately deliver what the donors would expect. Budgets are decimated before any tangible work can be done and seen.
All NGO’s and aid organizations should seriously consider working together in planning the logistics of projects that are a follow up to landmine clearing. See Demco’s list of armour plated machines and attachments for development projects.
